Crew

Alan Pike

Captain

Alan started his sea-going career in 1999; gaining experience and training on a number of cruise ships including the QE2, Victoria and Aurora. During his decade with P&O Princess and Cunard Alan was fortunate to experience many world cruises, as well as travels up the Amazon, Svalbard, Alaska and many other destinations.

After 10 years of commercial experience, Alan had the opportunity to join M/Y Octopus in the Autumn of 2009. Since then, Alan worked his way up the ranks onboard, being promoted to Captain in early 2020. Throughout his time onboard, Octopus has completed many unique voyages taking in some of the most spectacular parts of the globe. Experiences which will last long in his memory are expeditions to Antarctica, transiting the Northwest Passage on multiple occasions, as well as the Kimberley’s in North-Western Australia, to name but a few. Being part of this unique vessel and working with the onboard team has by far been the highlight of Alan’s career.

In his downtime on leave Alan enjoys spending time in the countryside of Northern England with his wife, children and his German Shepard, Heidi.
